ABSTRACT

The discussion as to what contemporary architecture is acceptable within our historic cities is still not over. There is a strong clash between conservators and contemporary architects? Who is right? Can contemporary architecture be compatible with the preservation of historic towns?

Is it correct to do away with the term `Historic City'? Why is HUL more inclusive, more `conservative'? Can a historic core be saved without the landscape around it?

HUL can hardly survive. The battle to protect the landscape and the views towards the historic city is being lost. How did we come to this? What will our future landscapes look like? How can we convince politicians and citizens about HUL?
